Frequently asked questions.

Print Quality & File Preparation

Are your prints Giclee’s?

Yes! We create archival pigment prints using top of the line inkjet printers and archival papers & canvas. These methods create museum quality prints that are often referred to as Giclee’s, Fine Art Prints, or Archival Inkjet Prints. Whatever you call them - they’re the best!

How do I prepare my files to send to you for printing?

Please save your files as .tiff or uncompressed .jpg in RGB color space, 300 dpi, and at the exact size you want to print. Make sure your files are final and ready to go, as we do not make any adjustments unless retouching is requested. If you need edits, we offer retouching services at $100/hr (prorated).

If you'd like to see a proof print before running your full order, you can request one on our Order Form. Proof prints are approximately 5x7 to 8x10 inches and cost $5 each.

I resized my file, why does it look pixelated?

When we resize an image, especially by increasing its size, the computer is essentially “making up” the missing pixels. As a result, the file may read as the correct resolution but can lose sharpness and appear pixelated. It's always best to work with a file at or above the size you want to print to ensure the best quality.

How big can you print my file?

While any file can technically be printed, the final quality depends on your personal tolerance for softness and pixelation. If we receive a file with questionable resolution, we’ll let you know that it may not print ideally and recommend a resolution proof ($5 each). This proof is a small section of your artwork printed at full size, allowing you to see exactly how it will look before committing to a full-size print.

Our largest printer is 60” wide, so the shortest side of your print must fit within this width. The long dimension can be as large as your file allows.

What kind of borders should I get?

Adding borders to your prints aids with handling and framing for your printer, yourself, and your customer. For pieces with dark and saturated inks to the edge of the image, it is often very difficult to cut out or handle without causing imprinting. We suggest adding a border of at least .5” to your prints.

  • Borders up to .5” are included in the price for all prints 16x20” and under. For prints larger than 16x20, borders up to 1” are included. Adding larger borders will bump up print cost to the next size listed.

  • In order to ensure the prints are made to your preference, we will need to know both the image size (the printed area) and the paper size (the full size of the paper).

For example, you want an 8x10 printed image with a 1-inch border added on top of the image. The Image size will be 8x10 and the paper size will be 10x12.
If you want the paper size to stay 8x10 but include a 1-inch border, the image size would be 6x8 and the paper size would be 8x10.
